Bullseye, direct hit!
Kevin Hoffer was driving underneath an overpass when a plow dumped snow and ice on his SUV’s windshield.
“Soon as it hit the windshield, the windshield just shattered,” Hoffer told !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
He was merging onto northbound US-131 from Stadium Drive Monday when it happened. His dashcam video captured it all in real time.
“I saw a plow coming,” he said. “Thought nothing of it.”
The snowplow was eastbound on the Michigan Avenue overpass.
“I didn’t expect (the snow) to hit,” he explained. “I expected to actually get past it or for it to come down before it got to me.”

Alternate video in case of Kinja:
Let us all take this as a good reminder to always... uh... well, what do you think is the main takeaway here? Is there a good way to approach this situation? (Besides making sure that you have a dascham running, that is...)
Is it reasonable to expect someone who’s in the process of merging with nearby traffic to also keep an eye out for plow trucks on overpasses? And what are your chances of adjusting your speed just the right amount to avoid this? And should you even try, while in the midst of other traffic, on slippery roads?

Small claims then. The city should absolutely pony up.

Other than maybe seeing the falling snow and slowing down I would chalk this one up to bad luck..

Where I live there’s signs on the road for stop and go plowing. So this shouldn’t happen.

This happened to me as well but not nearly as big of a crack.
I’ve always wondered how these things show up on the news. Do people have some weird event happen to them and then think... wait I should call the news and let them know?

In St. Louis this year a car was going under an overpass, a car above hit the side concrete, knocked it loose, smashed and killed her. Bad deal all around. I am always weary of going under an overpass where the concrete looks like shit.

IIRC it was a philanthropist in a Tesla Model S crushed by a massive block of concrete. RIP

Maybe. But I think nowadays a lot of this stuff gets passed around via Facebook, Twitter, etc. and news stations get wind of it from there. I’m not sure if this is one of those tim es. But I’m not on those sites, so maybe that’s why I couldn’t find anything that looked like it was the original source video.

Yep. I replied to myself with the fox2 news story. Sounded like she was a well respected lady in the community and a real shame she went like that. R.I.P. indeed.
I think her husband is suing the city as they knew it was in bad shape.

Oh, I wasn’t judging your post. I just never understood how stories like this made the news. ‘Oh look a bird shit on my window and it looks like Jesus’ haha
But you’re right, social media definitely could be a big influencer.
